Looking into your daughter’s eyes for the very first time is nothing less than the most incredible experience you will ever have. You are immediately filled with a newfound appreciation for the woman who gave birth to you, your mother.
With this new chapter in your life just beginning, you start to understand what a fantastic person your mom is. Then you start to wonder if you have what it takes to raise a daughter of your own.
Reality Sets In
After the initial joy and amazement of giving birth to your child passes, you begin to think about the responsibility you now have, and you wonder if you will be able to meet those challenges as seamlessly as your mother did.
Thinking back, you realize that your mom made it seem like it all just came naturally to her; it almost seems like she was born with the knowledge it takes to raise a child. You know you were not born with this ability, so you wonder if you will be able to meet these challenges.
What Happens Now?
Of course, you do not remember how your mother handled caring for you when you were a baby, but you do remember she was always there for you when you were little. Your mother knew what to do when you got hurt.
When you were sad, your mother had the answer to make everything better; she would say the right thing to lift your spirits when you were upset. Your mother would set aside some time during her busy day to spend with you. Will you be able to do the same for your daughter?
Wonder Woman
Who says that superheroes are not real? As you continue to think about all the responsibility you now have and how your mom handled the same situation when you were a child, you begin to realize just how much she has done for you. You begin to have a whole new appreciation for her.
Your mother was in the same position you find yourself in now; she must have wondered the same things you are right now. It must not have been easy for her either; your mother must have had doubts as well.
However, from what you remember, she always made it look easy. You realize that your mother has done so much for you, and still does.
You will always remember how your mother put your needs and your happiness before her own. At the time, you never really gave it a second thought. It is not that you did not appreciate her efforts; you just took them for granted.
You will never forget everything you put your mom through when you were a teenager—all the nights of worrying if you were all right when you went out with friends. At the time, you just shrugged it off and couldn’t understand why she was always worrying.
I am Not Your Friend I am Your Mother
Life was not always perfect, and sometimes you acted up and needed to be punished. However, your mom even handles these instances with a special kind of love and care.
One of your mother’s favorite sayings was, “I am not your friend; I am your mother.” You know that she meant you needed to respect her wishes because she was only trying to teach you right from wrong. However, your mother was the best friend you could ever hope to have.
Special Times
Your mother was always there to make every birthday a special event. Christmas time was always a beautiful, magical time of the year for you. Even when we did not have much, she still made your childhood happy. She made you feel special.
Will you be able to do the same for your daughter? One day, when your daughter has a child of her own, will she be able to think back on everything you have done for her with pleasant thoughts. Will she then wonder if she is up to the challenge of motherhood?
A Mother’s Love
One of the most important things about your mother is the constant love she showed you. There isn’t any doubt in your mind that your mom loved you and that she would do anything for you.
You and now realize a much more profound appreciation for her and all the things she has done to mold you as an adult. More importantly, all along, she has been preparing you for this day.
You realize all you need is love to guide you through this beautiful new journey that your mother has already given you all the tools you need to be successful.
